Topic - History of the ICE

A look back at the last 200 years of the Institution, its founding and the key influencers in its development.

 

Biography 

Mark is the Country Representative of the Institution of Civil Engineers for the UAE and was elected Council Member for the Middle East and Africa region in 2017. He is a champion for developing professional engineers across the region and improving delivery.

 

Mark is Managing Director for KEO International Consultants responsible for Project & Construction Management and Supervision Services across the GCC, heading a staff of 1250. Previously he was a Project Director for Turner Construction International, a major Project Management Consultancy based in the UAE and was the Head of HSE for Turner across the Middle East, responsible for HSE operations and policy. He is a civil engineer with more than 25 years’ experience in construction and engineering in the UK and overseas. As well as delivering major construction projects from nuclear to rail and infrastructure to building mega projects, Mark’s current ICE roles involve looking after the interests of the 1000 members registered here in the UAE and the many ICE members resident or seconded into the MEA region. Having spent 15+ years as a Contractor, Mark joined Turner in July 2007 on Downtown Burj Dubai Boulevard, Infrastructure & Tram System project including the famous Dubai Fountain. Over the last 10 years Mark has been working on various mega-projects across Abu Dhabi and Dubai. In February 2017, Mark joined KEO as Executive Director for PM Services based in Abu Dhabi but with a responsibility for projects across all countries outside Kuwait; he was subsequently promoted to Managing Director for the whole division in November 2017. Mark is Chairman of Darjeeling Cricket Club, the oldest such club in Dubai.

As a Corporate Representative of the British Business Group, Abu Dhabi he is a trustee of the group and in October 2017 had the privilege of meeting His Royal Highness, The Duke of York, aboard RFA Cardigan Bay on 3rd October 2017 and attended the Pitch @ Palace event at the Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi the subsequent evening.
